Therapeutic Writing
Mount Sinai Psychotherapy Institute

Faculty: Julie Hann, OT & Rex Kay, MD

Date: Friday November 18, 2016

We are the stories we tell. A growing body of literature shows that writing and talking about personal stories can help patients living with chronic physical and mental illnesses. Mount Sinai Hospital has been at the forefront of developing the theory and application of Narrative Competency Therapy. Join these skilled therapists, each with more than fifteen years of experience, and learn how these techniques can be incorporated into your group and individual work.

This seminar will incorporate theoretical, practical and experiential components to explore the use of narrative-based therapy and therapeutic writing in everyday treatment.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate the therapeutic value of incorporating narrative into healthcare using narrative competency techniques with individuals and groups in clinical practice and understand the theoretical underpinnings of narrative competency therapy
  • Recognize narrative aspects of experience that emerge in all therapeutic work
  • Implement their own narrative and reflective practice
