In honor of Legal Professionalism Month, CDLA and CTLA are hosting a special one hour CLE discussion regarding the fact that while our profession demands zealous advocacy, professionalism requires that we be mindful of how our words and deeds may impact those across the aisle from us. We will discuss whether there may be inadvertent but unacceptable communications that occur in our profession that adversely impact those who may be younger, older, a different gender, sexual preference, race or creed. We will talk about how to shine the light on those biases without destroying the ability to move forward productively with the offending party. There may well be attorneys who still silently harbor reticence to any “woke” language like the foregoing, and to those we say: economic efficiency and persuasive efficacy are also powerful motivators to find creative solutions to seeming communication roadblocks. The speakers will discuss war stories, ethical and legal principles that may be applicable, and they will offer concrete solutions for all of us so we can all be better lawyers, and perhaps even better people.
