In 2015, an armed shoplifter running from the Greenwood Police Department broke into a home, refused to come out, and shot at the involved police officers. To remove him from the residence and arrest him, a variety of strategies were used, some of which resulted in severe damage to the home. A law suit for an alleged unlawful taking resulted in – spoiler alert! – summary judgment in favor of the police department, followed by appeals that included certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court. Find out the how and the why the case was successfully handled, including facts not revealed in the press, from the attorneys who handled the litigation, appeal, and cert.
