Peter Wingate, Deputy Director Colorado Division of Labor, will discuss a number of new state law laws affecting employers including adjudication of wage-hour disputes by an ALJ for amounts less than $7500, social media and credit history laws, employment verification requirements and audits separate from I-9 reporting and the Division of Labor’s enforcement activities for 2015. Mr. Wingate’s presentation will be timely and informative.

Stacy Worthington, Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Litigation and Employment Section, and Vincent Morscher, Deputy Attorney General in the Civil Litigation and Employment Law Section, will discuss changes to the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA). The Job Protection and Civil Rights Enforcement Act of 2013, which is effective on January 1, 2015, significantly amended the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA). The amendments affect all employers in Colorado and allow for the recovery of compensatory and punitive damages and prevailing plaintiff attorneys’ fees. Ms. Worthington and Mr. Morscher will provide a brief overview of CADA and discuss the amendments in detail. They will address the practical implications of the amendments on employers and employment lawyers.  Ms. Worthington and Mr. Morscher will also address what these amendments mean for the Colorado Civil Rights Division and what it is doing to prepare for the implementation of these amendments.
