The Work Comp Section of CDLA along with the new General Liability Section will present a CLE on insurance fraud on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 5:30 pm at Angelo's Taverna on 6th Ave.  Speaking will be Sean Clifford, of the Office of the Colorado Attorney General and David Perry, a sole practitioner. Before the CLE will be an amazing cocktail party with delicious appetizers and drinks.  Following the CLE, join us for a full dinner (and drinks).

What will be covered:

  • explosion of fraud across insurance
  • cost of fraud to carriers/consumers
  • how carriers fight fraud
  • what insurance policies allow carriers to do
  • how to advise clients
  • actions to take to combat fraud prosecution of suspected cases

Mr. Clifford is a First Assistant Attorney General over the Financial Fraud Unit of the Colorado Attorney General's Office.  The Unit has original jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute securities fraud and insurance fraud throughout the State.  The Unit frequently utilizes the statewide grand jury to bring about investigations of those crimes.  An experienced deputy district attorney, Mr. Clifford worked for the Jefferson County District Attorney's office for over 10 years prior to his current position, including investigating complex financial and white collar crimes.

Mr. Perry has practiced law in Colorado for over 30 years and has over 25 years investigating insurance fraud, including arson and explosion cases.  He has investigated hundreds of such cases for many of the major insurance carriers in Colorado and in several States in the west.  He has taken hundreds of examinations under oath and made referrals to the Colorado Division of Insurance for the evaluation of potential prosecutions.

This CLE will provide you with great information regarding insurance fraud, and you will leave with a full belly too!  We look forward to seeing you!
