Today you don’t have to be a web developer to be able to create and update your own website. WordPress has evolved from a simple blogging tool into a sophisticated and powerful website publishing platform, and it comes with a great set of features designed to make your experience as a publisher on the Internet as easy, pleasant and appealing as possible.

In this workshop you’ll master WordPress basics and learn websites in general, so you have a solid foundation to build upon after you leave the classroom. This workshop is also hands-on — you’ll spend a significant amount of time adding Posts and Pages, editing text and images, adding video and audio, choosing Themes and Plugins, while getting comfortable with the back end interface.

What you will learn in this workshop:

  • WordPress basics
  • Instructions on installing WordPress on computers or servers
  • What is WordPress Core and how to add functionality
  • Mastering the concept of Posts and Pages
  • The difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com
  • Knowing WordPress security issues and how to make periodic backups

Who Should Attend?  This s an introductory workshop designed for non-technical professionals with little or no web editing experience. If you own or are planning a new business, or are job hunting and want to add this important skill to your resume, you’ll benefit from this workshop.

Presenter: Robin Friedman is both a designer and a web developer, and for the past 15 years, she has used these two skillsets to build custom websites for small business owners. She is also involved with other projects including developing software for patient education. Examples of some of her WordPress sites include: biobuilder.org, rachelhopkin.com, brooklinesoccer.org, and pdcboston.org. Robin has also taught software technology at area colleges and adult education centers.
