The Space Coast Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) invites you to join us for our next chapter meeting and training workshop on Friday, November 14, 2014, presented by Justine Cowan from Orlando-based Cowan Consulting for Nonprofits. This presentation will focus on the legal requirements for fundraising, including proper accounting and acknowledgements. Also covered will be the new solicitation law which will impact most nonprofits and fundraisers in Florida.
You’ll be armed with practical tools to spur meaningful dialogue, boost your communication and fundraising initiatives, and avoid pitfalls.

About our speaker:
Justine Thompson Cowan is an attorney and the Owner of Cowan Consulting for Nonprofits, PLLC, which provides both legal and consulting services to the staff and boards of nonprofit organizations.
As an honors graduate of Duke University School of Law, Justine helps nonprofits operate in compliance with the law by conducting legal audits, training staff and boards on their legal responsibilities, and counseling nonprofits on issues such as tax, employment, corporate governance and more. Justine also provides "in house" counsel services where she is available to answer legal questions from nonprofit staff and board members on an ongoing basis.
With the sweeping changes in Florida's fundraising laws, Justine has been assisting fundraising consultants and solicitors as well as nonprofit organizations on how to stay in compliance with the law.
In addition to her legal expertise, Justine has over 20 years of experience in the public interest field, including serving for 13 years as Executive Director of a successful nonprofit organization in Atlanta, Georgia. Drawing on these experiences, Justine provides nonprofit management services including executive coaching, board and executive director training, strategic planning and assistance with all aspects of nonprofit management.
