St. Nicholas Feast Celebration - Dec. 6th

Question: What do archers, sailors, pawnbrokers, and children have in common?

Answer: They all claim Saint Nicholas as their patron!

Sinterklaas, the Dutch dialectical pronunciation for Saint Nicholas (also became the root for the American "Santa Claus", was a 4th century Greek bishop who was known for his great love for the poor.  He used all he owned to care for those who are poor and most in need.  His generosity was so well-known that legends of his generosity multiplied throughout the centuries and down to our own day.  Advent is a great time to teach our children about Saint Nicholas and the deeper meaning of this beautiful season.

The Croatians, having many among them who are sailors, logically have taken St. Nicholas as their patron.  This community is also the predominant ethnic group at Saint Mary's Parish. I invite you to join me this Saturday to the Saint Nicholas Festival put on by our Croatian brothers and sisters.  The details of this celebration are provided below.

I look forward to see you this Saturday.  Happy Advent!
