Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center 

Some activities at the Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center require separate registration and additional fees.

Activities (Descriptions Below):

  • Hiking - no fee; registration required (limited to 42 partipants) - use Access Code HIKING
  • Rock Climbing - $49/person (limited to 24 participants) - CLOSED
  • Via Ferrata - $84/person (limited to 14 participants) - use Access Code VIAFERRATA
  • Canopy Tour - $76/person (limited to 30 participants) - use Access Code CANOPY

Registration Details:

  • A person may only register for one activity.
  • The registration form will only accept registration for one activity at a time.
  • Transportation to and from Snowshoe Village will be provided for all registered partipants.
  • Leashed pets are allowed when hiking.
  • Minimum age is 8 for rock climbing. A parent must be present during the rock climbing event if their under-15 child is climbing. If a non-climbing parent is tagging along to supervise their child, they are not required to pay a fee for climbing nor will they count towards the maximum number of climbers allowed at the site. 

Schedule:

  • 7:30am  - Bus departs Snowshoe 
  • 9:00am  - Bus arrives at Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center (NROC), launch Via Ferrata cohort
  • 9:30am  - Canopy tour A and rock climbing begin
  • 10:00am - Canopy tour B begins
  • 10:30am - Canopy tour C begins
  • 1:00pm  - Canopy tour A returns
  • 1:30pm  - Canopy tour B returns
  • 2:00pm  - Canopy tour C returns, rock climbing ends, Via Ferrata returns
  • 2:30pm  - Bus departs NROC
  • 4:00pm  - Bus arrives Snowshoe

Here are the details for all possible activities at NROC:

  1. Hanging out, painting or catching butterflies, playing with your dog
    1. Intensity: none
    2. Cost: only meals
    3. Time: very open
    4. Gear: none, other than leash and poop bags for your dog
    5. Requirements: none
  2. Geocaching 
    1. Intensity: mild, depending on target
    2. Cost: only meals
    3. Time: very open 
    4. Gear: good shoes/sandals, GPS and targets
    5. Requirements: none 
  3. Hiking
    1. Intensity: moderate (similar trails to the current trail up to Seneca Rocks)
    2. Cost: only meals
    3. Time: varies, but at least two hours to get anywhere and back
    4. Gear: good hiking shoes/sandals, maps (provided)
    5. Requirements: signed waiver (maybe)
  4. Canopy tour (almost a mile of zip lines from 150 to 680 ft in length plus 3 sky bridges and 40 ft rappel)
    1. Intensity: moderate with brief challenging periods
    2. Cost: $76 plus meals 
    3. Time: 3.5 hours for complete tour but tour cohorts are staggered every half hour to accommodate the crowd
    4. Gear: provided, but good closed athletic shoes required, gloves recommended
    5. Requirements: signed waiver, participants must weigh between 70 and 250 pounds, visitors under the age of 18 must also have the Participant Agreement signed by the minor's custodial parent or legal guardian. No age requirement, just weight. 
    6. Only ten persons per cohort, so a maximum of 30 registrants will be able to participate between 9:30am and 10:30am starts.
  5. Via Ferrata (3.5 miles, over a 1000 ft elevation change, plus suspension bridge)
    1. Intensity: challenging, but there is a drop-out point if it is too much
    2. Cost: $84 plus meals 
    3. Time: 4-5.5 hours for complete climb but people can double-back sooner if they wish
    4. Gear: provided, but lightweight hiking shoe/boots required, gloves recommended
    5. Requirements: signed waiver, participants must be at least 13 and in good physical condition. Visitors under the age of 18 must also have the Participant Agreement signed by the minor's custodial parent or legal guardian. 
    6. Maximum of 14 persons can register in our timeframe.
  6. Top-rope rock climbing and rappelling (under guidance and direction of WILD GUYde Adventures, LLC)
    1. Intensity: as challenging as you make it
    2. Cost: $45 plus meals 
    3. Time: 4.5 hours
    4. Gear: provided by Wild GUYde, but lightweight hiking shoe/boots required for approach hike, gloves recommended for belaying. WILD GUYde will supply climbing ropes, harnesses, helmets, and climbing shoes but you may wish to bring your personal climbing gear (harness, shoes) if you own any.
    5. Requirements: signed medical and waiver available at http://www.wildguyde.com. Still working on age limits for this.
    6. Two sites available which can accommodate max of 15 participants at each for 30 max registrants.
