Please join us for Breaking Free's 20 Year Anniversary Gala, a celebration of the extraordinary history of an organization that has contributed monumentally to knowledge about the realities of sex trafficking and prostitution in Minnesota, the United States, and around the world. Breaking Free is celebrating 20 years of survivor-led advocacy services to over 7,500 women seeking support to get out of "the Life" of sex trafficking and prostitution.

At this year's gala event, we will celebrate not only the resilience and success of Breaking Free these past 20 years, but also the bright future yet to come.

Vednita Carter has dedicated her career to the abolition of prostitution and sex trafficking. She founded Breaking Free in 1996, building the organization from the ground up and seeing it through 20 years of service. Though she may be retiring from her role as President of Breaking Free, she will remain a dedicated abolitionist all of her life, and she will always be a part of Breaking Free.

Breaking Free's 20 Year Anniversary will feature
a farewell address from Vednita Carter.

Dr. Gail Dines is a professor of sociology and women’s studies at Wheelock College in Boston, an internationally acclaimed speaker, author, and a feminist public intellectual. Her writing and lectures focus on the hypersexualization of the culture and the ways that porn images filter down into mainstream pop culture. Gail’s powerful TEDx talk provides an introduction to her work. Gail is a recipient of the Myers Center Award for the Study of Human Rights.

Gail is founder and President of Culture Reframed – a health promotion non-profit organization that recognizes and addresses pornography as the public health crisis of the digital age.

Gail joined Breaking Free at the Demand Change Project in 2013 and was the keynote speaker of the 2015 conference. We are thrilled to welcome her back to Breaking Free to celebrate this momentous occassion.
