Sponsored by a European Interreg Project named "Industry 4.0 via Networked Control Applications and Sustainable Engineering" - aka INCASE, this free-to-attend seminar addresses the key practical issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in automated manufacturing and process industry applications, with particular attention to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0
Covering key application areas such as mechanical handling and logistics, robotics, automotive engineering, electrical and electronics assembly, control systems and energy management, pulp & paper, chemical, utilities, pharmaceutical, packaging and printing, it focuses on the practical aspects of using PROFIBUS, PROFINET and IO-Link, from system design and safety considerations through to fault-finding and maintenance.
Supported by demonstrations of actual tools used in configuration and maintenance, the seminar will be of great value to Designers, Production/System Engineers, Instrument Technicians/Engineers and C&I Engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of modern automated factories and process plant.
With nearly 80 million nodes installed worldwide, PROFIBUS, PROFINET and IO-Link are truly market leaders, providing state of the art digital communications addressing all the needs of manufacturing and process industries, significantly lowering capital expenditure on installation, commissioning and maintenance. They offer unprecedented integration of automation, control, monitoring and safety systems using standardised and widely supported communications and networking solutions.
This seminar is ably presented by specialists from PI UK member companies and INCASE project partners. Attendance is free of charge to pre-registered delegates from the User community, i.e. companies that own, operate, design, build or maintain automated plant. The event will provide delegates with an excellent networking opportunity and the ability to speak to our experts whom, we promise, will not force you to buy anything.
“Very well presented and a lot of useful information” “Fantastic as always and very informative”
“Superb day for experience and information”
If you’d like to learn how to simplify your PROFIBUS, PROFINET or IO-Link application … don’t miss this one-day Seminar!

PROFINET network redundancy with MRP, PRP and HSR: working principles, measurements, application example from industry |
Philippe Saey & Frederic Depuydt, KU Leuven (Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium) |
|
When communication fails, PROFINET IO Devices go to their fail safe state. For more critical networks one could consider creating redundant paths in the industrial network, e.g. when the downtime of the installation is too expensive, or for safety reasons. The working principle of industrially available redundant Ethernet technologies such as “Media Redundancy Protocol” (MRP), “Parallel Redundancy Protocol” (PRP) and “High-availability Seamless Redundancy” (HSR) is explained, measurements are discussed, and some industrial case studies are given. |

IO-Link technology |
Russell Smith - Balluff |
|
This presentation will be covering what a typical IO-Link solution consists of, how it interfaces to the control system and the benefits that can be derived from this increased level of communication with IO-Link devices. These include: easier handling of measurement signals, remote and automatic device parameterisation, smart sensor diagnostic functions, safety over IO-Link whilst also being an enabler for Industrial IoT and Industry 4.0 strategies. |
|
14:20 – 14:40 |
EMC interference in industrial networks – understanding and avoiding the risks. |
Peter Thomas, Control Specialists |
|
The recommendation for the grounding of the screens of PROFIBUS and PROFINET cables, in line with similar technologies, can lead to the screens unintentionally becoming part of the equipotential bonding network of the site. This short presentation will discuss the issues and how a new guideline that will shortly be released by PI addresses the problems. |

Troubleshooting EMI in industrial networks: practical cases. |
Jos Knockaert, UGent (Ghent University, Belgium) |
|
EMC problems occur in different ways. Sometimes the cause is obvious (90% of the cases), sometimes it is difficult to find the source (the 10% interesting ones). In this presentation an insight is given in troubleshooting: how to act, what measurement methods are valuable and how were some problems solved. The presentation is fully based on real life examples. |
