According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) , it is estimated that more than 20 million men, women, and children around the world are victims of human trafficking. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery.

Florida is ranked third in the United States for human trafficking. Using a public health approach, individuals and organizations can understand the dynamics of trauma and inter-related violence and its impact on human trafficking victims. Coalitions, organizations, and individuals can work together to reduce risk for vulnerable populations by providing education and bringing awareness to communities using cultural-specific prevention and intervention strategies.

Please join us for the Florida Department of Health - 2019 Human Trafficking Symposium on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This year's theme is "Addressing Human Trafficking as a Public Health Issue in Florida". This is a full-day event with panel speakers that will focus on healthcare topics inculding maternal and child health, migrant health, and integrating a system of health care in communities.

The symposium is offered for in person attendees and via webcast.

The learning objectives for the symposium:

  • Networking and learning from each other.
  • Hear from a panel of subject matter experts and survivors on how we all play a role in fighting against human trafficking.
  • Obtaining resources and information to help bring awareness to stop human trafficking.

Free Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered to licensed health professionals.
