Beekeeping Class

Learn everything you ever wanted to know about honey bees. We will put on veils, open up some hives and explore the many aspects of backyard beekeeping. Topics to include the anatomy of the bee and parts of a hive, beekeeping equipment, hive health, diseases and pests, honey harvest, benefits of raw honey and honeybee products, 12 month/4 season cycle of beekeeping, and local beekeepers resources. We will wrap up with some honey sampling, freshly harvested from our backyard hives.

Principal Burbank was an attendee last year and said: "the beekeeping class was da bomb."  She adds that while she was fearful at first, after the two-hour class and armed with much knowledge, she feared no more.  She highly recommends the experience.

Guests should protect appendages by wearing blue jeans, long-sleeve, light colored shirts, and boots or other ankle-covering shoes. Bee veils will be provided. Liability waivers must be signed. Mutually agreeable date by August 31, 2017, to be determined.
