General Membership Meeting - Identifying & Treating Medical Emergencies in Children 

Dr. Rothman received his BA cum laude from SUNY at Buffalo & DDS from NYU College of Dentistry. He completed a GPR at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Anesthesiology Residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and a Pediatric Dentistry Residency at Children’s Hospital/Oakland & UCSF. He was Director of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency program at UCSF and in 1989 assumed the Chair of the Dept of Pediatric Dentistry at UOP. He is a Clinical Assoc Professor at Pediatric Dentistry Dept of Case Western Reserve Univ Dental Medicine School. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry & a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Rothman has been published in numerous journals and newsletters.

Despite our best efforts and obsessive preparation, medical emergencies can and will happen in children. When they do, they happen quickly and often without warning. The unique physiology of children with little in the way of oxygen reserves means response must be immediate and treatment must be definitive. This program will discuss the unique physiology and anatomy of children, preparedness, recognition and treatment of emergencies in both the un-sedated and sedated child.

Objectives:
1.  Identify medical and sedation emergencies in children
2.  Develop an appropriate emergency kit and emergency protocol
3.  Identify risk factors for pediatric patients based upon their unique anatomy, physiology and childhood diseases
4.  Provide RESCUE to stabilize the endangered child
