About the Conference
The Central Indiana Case Management Society of America (CICMSA) invites you to join us for our 21st Annual Fall Conference. CICMSA is the Central Indiana Chapter of CMSA which is the “leading membership association providing professional collaboration across the healthcare continuum to advocate for patients’ wellbeing and improved health outcomes by fostering case management growth and development…and providing evidence-based tools and resources.” CICMSA meets monthly and provides continuing education for its members and guests involved in the various aspects of case management. The Fall Conference is the premier event offered by CICMSA and is offered in October each year. Your attendance will provide you with:

  • 6 CEU’s for CCM and/or NASW certification 
  • An opportunity to network with case management colleagues in a conference setting and dialog about issues facing case managers today 
  • Access to providers of various healthcare services in our exhibit hall 
Each year over 200 attendees meet at the Ritz Charles in Carmel, IN. The topic this year is The Case Manager’s Changing Role in Healthcare. This is a timely topic as the scope of practice and the responsibilities of case managers whether nurses, social workers or other healthcare professionals continue to expand. Guest Speakers

John Wernert, MD, MHA
Secretary
Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA)

After being appointed by Governor Pence, Dr. Wernert is the first physician to hold the role of Secretary of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). He is a native of Louisville, Kentucky, but has lived in Indiana since 1985.

Dr. Wernert began his career as a psychiatrist in 1989 after obtaining his medical degree from the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine. He has practiced geriatric psychiatry at various hospitals in Central Indiana. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine and holds a master’s degree in health administration from Indiana University.

Dr. Wernert most recently served in medical director roles at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis and for the Franciscan Alliance system in Indiana. From 2007-2010, he served as the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs for MDWise.

Along with his work with adult and geriatric patients, Dr. Wernert serves as a clinical consultant to numerous nursing facilities and group homes in Central Indiana. He has a special interest in working in integrated settings with complicated medical patients, geriatric patients and individuals suffering from memory and behavioral disorders.

Dr. Wernert lives in Carmel with his wife Erin and is the proud father of six.

Katie Campbell, BSW, LSW

Katie Campbell, LSW, is the Community Outreach Coordinator at The Hospice Group with experience in providing social work, volunteer coordination and bereavement services, and a passion for hospice education to patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals. Katie graduated with a Bachelor in Social Work in 2006 from Ball State University. After graduation, she worked with Magnolia Health Systems as a Social Service Director before promoting to a Corporate Social Service Consultant within the same company. Throughout this time, she worked as a part time social worker at The Hospice Group before obtaining a full time leadership position in 2011, assisting the company in obtaining awards such as Community Partner of the Year from Hillcroft Services, Inc. in 2013 and Volunteer of the Year in 2014.

Carl Bossung is a co founder of Senior1Care, a family owned and managed business. He has had over 45 years of experience in management of service providers in two industries. He has been a thought leader in his organizations in the areas of strategic planning, service quality and leadership development. During his career, he has focused on the development of future leaders through assessment, mentoring and coaching. In his roles, he has been actively involved in the support and development of women in leadership.



Nicolas M. Priscu, MD, Medical Director

Dr. Nicolas M. Priscu has been practicing medicine for 30 years throughout the long term care continuum. As PACE Medical Director, this position provides him the opportunity to design and implement a person-centered, holistic team approach to care that rewards creative, innovative thinking all while keeping the focus on the person.

A graduate of the Institute of Medicine & Pharmacy at Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Dr. Priscu is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Susan Waschevski has been privileged to work in the field of home and community based services in our community over the last twenty years primarily at the Indiana State Division of Aging and CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions.

Over those twenty years she has had the opportunity to listen to consumers and caregivers who are searching for long term care solutions and a consistent request was for coordinated care that focuses on the consumer and their caregivers.

Beth Edwards, CTRS, Brain Injury Unit Case Manager
Melissa Chandler, BSW, Acute Rehab Case Manager
Community Rehabilitation Hospital
Beth has over 14 years of experience in acute inpatient rehabilitation in a variety of roles. Currently she is a Case Manager at Community Rehabilitation Hospital in Indianapolis serving the brain injury unit. Contributing to her qualifications for this role, Beth has used her degree in Recreational Therapy in diverse ways, with a wide variety of populations. She spent 12 years at Hook Rehabilitation Center as a therapist with a Brain Injury Specialty on the Neurobehavioral Team, Aquatic Therapist, and a Lead Programmer with the Hook Rehabilitation Adaptive Athletics Program- serving adults with Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Amputation, Muscular Dystrophy, etc. Beth has also served as an Admissions Liaison for Community Rehabilitation Hospital. In fulfilling her strong passion for philanthropy, Beth also serves as a volunteer for Power Soccer. She spent 5 years on the Board of Directors for the Indiana organization, organized tournaments and fundraisers, and coached a division 1 team, as well as being one of only 12 Internationally trained Classifiers for the sport of Power Soccer. She also spends much of her time volunteering for Indiana Canine Assistance Network (ICAN)- serving on a monthly committee and furloughing service dogs in training in order for them to be placed with someone with a disability. Beth’s wide range of experiences helps her currently to assist her patients and families be educated on and get connected with resources for living in the community with a disability.

Melissa Chandler is a Case Manager for Community Rehabilitation Hospital. With over 20 years of experience in the health care industry, she is able to help patients and families navigate the health care system and connect with the services that best meet their needs. Melissa graduated from Ball State University with Bachelor’s Degrees in Social Work and Sociology and, over the years, has amassed a wealth of invaluable health care experience, both personally and professionally.

Having served as a Social Worker in long term care, a Social Worker and Marketing Liaison for Home Care and Hospice, a Discharge Planner, a Case Manager, an Executive Director of a Retirement Community, and personal caregiver for her own mother, there isn’t much that she hasn’t encountered in this industry.
