Together with our expertise in examining the physical appearance of the prelaminar optic nerve, the technology of spectral domain OCT allows ODs to have a pivotal role in the diagnosis and management of multiple sclerosis. It is well-known that based on autopsy studies and clinical examinations, most patients with MS suffer from optic neuritis at some point in their disease course. Effects of Macular Carotenoids on Eye, Brain and Body

In this course, attendees will learn about the beneficial visual, cognitive, neurophysiological and systemic effects of macular carotenoid supplementation. For context, a brief history of the study of macular carotenoids will be presented, followed by an illustration of how these carotenoids can improve the way the retina processes light in order to enhance vision under real world conditions. A summary of several recent studies that characterize the beneficial cognitive effects of macular carotenoid supplementation will be presented as well. Additionally, systemic effects associated with macular carotenoid status, including lowered blood cortisol and inflammatory markers, will be discussed. The plausible mechanisms for both visual and cognitive effects will be covered, including those that lead to increased visual processing speed, contrast sensitivity, enhanced memory performance and sustained attention. practice. Pharmacology, 2 Hours IOB & Legend Drug
