Lamb's Tale MInistries is a 501(c)3 nonprofit ministry, devoted to Christian leadership care and general public retreat ministry.  Since 2000, we have offered annual "respite care" for Christian leaders at the Haven River Inn.  In keeping with our commitment to leaders, this retreat endeavors to "add life to your years."

Lamb's Tale Ministries invites you to attend

"A Taste of Transformation"

at the Haven River Inn January 14-17, 2018

What keeps you from feeling better and living more fully at this time?

Is it dietary bad habits?  Or lack of sleep, or exercise?  Or is it lack of hope that you could actually feel a lot better?

Many of us know what we should do, but somehow cannot take the steps to do it.  And then there are others of us who had a lot to learn to optimize our efforts at wellness.  We are all on the way, aren't we?

You are invited to join us to explore these questions and more to get a jump start on the new year -- in January at the Haven!

We are a group of women invested in both regaining and maintaining our health, and would love to help you do the same...because we have a lot to live for ... and we bet you do, too.

 ~

In the doctor's office, here is the dilemma: The patient has lifestyle issues that will end in things like depression, heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's, arthritis, cancer and diabetes, to name but a few.  And for some, sooner than later.

And beginning at perimenopause, hormonal and leaky gut issues usher women into a new land of brain fog, emotional messiness and even forgetfulness. And andropause subtly changes the way men function both in strength and vitality.

Then as soon as a medication is mentioned, whether it be blood pressure medicing, sleep help or anxiety meds, the following questions come up: "Can't I do this with diet change?  What if I exercise more?"

And the doctor nods and says that these things help, but they probably won't take the place of medications.  Physicians have seen it though.  People can turn their health around.  But will they?

We know that God numbers our days.  But, will our days be healthy ones? Will we even feel like living them out?  Will our ministries and jobs and life purpose be energetically fulfilled?

Or will we become part of the statistic as predicted that the current baby boomer generation may live longer than their parents, but be ten years sicker toward the end of their lives?

Alzheimer's alone is inflicting 17% of 65 year old women, and 11% of 65 year old men, but if you live to 85 the rate is 50%. But we believe it is largely preventable.

With a focused time of training to encourage adequate change, rate of deteriorating health can be different.   We have seen this.  We are living this.

And for those of us who have had lifelong food issues, we "know" that any health issues we have, we have definitely brought upon ourselves.  So, eating for the wrong reason is a major topic at this retreat.

If you want to feel better soon, improve your health, or get over overeating, you are invited to join Dr. Suzanne Ellison of SEE Wellness, and her team of health coaches at this retreat for a functional medicine approach to wellness.

What chronic illnesses respond to diet change?

  • Do you have heart disease, but have gotten tired of trying to use diet to make a difference?
  • Or do you have high blood pressure or diabetes, and the medicines don't work too well?
  • Are you stuck in your efforts at weight loss?
  • Is poor memory or focus becoming an issue for you?
  • Would you like help with lifestyle changes that treat depression and anxiety?
  • Do people need probiotics, and what do they do for us?
  • How much protein is best?
  • Who benefits most from a low lectin, ketogenic approach?
  • Do you have "leaky gut" and what can be done for that?
  • Where do food allergies or sensitivities fit in?
  • Do supplements make sense?  If so, which ones?

-- If you live to be 85, as many of you will, will you have osteoporosis?  Arthritis? Sleep apnea? Are you at a high risk for cancer?  Do you take medication for high cholesterol?

Did you know that even impotence can respond to diet change?

~

A BONUS: Each of these illnesses can improve with the medical devices you will experience at this retreat.  They are:

Bemer, a pulsed EMF device with a signal that facilitates better blood flow.

Sauna, with far infrared deep heat to mobilize toxins - and did you know that sauna at lower temperatures will reduce your fat cell number? ... just sayin'

Vielight, a new technology that gives more energy to brain centers involved with memory and mood.

~

A lot of us seem to take better care of others than of ourselves.  In that case, who do you love enough to make changes for?  I bet there is someone. Then we hope you will come!

Meet the Team

Suzanne Ellison MD

Suz head

A family physician for over 30 years and certified in Functional Medicine by the Institute of Functional Medicine has taken a special interest in hormonal issues, cardiovascular prevention, cognitive decline, gut health and weight loss.

"I believe that the best diet is one that people will stay on.  So pretty much, I help people look at facts and then help them design their diet theselves.  Lifestyle change is difficult, and needs to be worth it.  People need to feel better and require fewer medicatios as a result of changes they do make.  But that does not happen if the changes are not sustainable ... and delicious.

For my patients, sometimes lack of knowledge is the problem, and I can  help with that aspect. But usually what is hindering them from being successful is not so easy to know, and that is why I love wellness retreats.  People get to focus on what is blocking them, and also get an immersion experience in change.  The retreat gives them a better chance at success.

About Dr. Ellison - At age 50, she developed five "chronic" illnesses that are now being treated with diet alone.  "I did make significant change, but it is easy now." Her approach has led to writing the book, Do I Eat This? D.I.E.T?

And with the history of gaining and losing 50 pounds 5 times with five babies, she's following God's lead to continually address the interplay between stress and overeating.

"In my 30's and 40's, I remember wanting to skip those Bible passages about viewing our bodies as a tempe of the Holy Spirit.  At that time my stressed soul seemed to say, 'Temple, temple? I don't see a temple.' "

Now, the following quote of Oswald Chambers guides me: "The biggest favor you can do for others within the Kingdom of God is to repent yourself of what you know you need to change, and then help others do the same."

Claudia Fahrenthold

"After accepting Jesus as Lord in 1979, my Christian journey began with Bible study, seminars, retreats, small groups, Sunday school, mission trips, and church camps.  Scripture memory was a big part of my becoming a disciple and I am a firm believer in the power of 'hiding the word' in our hearts.

I love cooking, trying new recipes, and sitting down with family and friends to enjoy a good meal."

Claudia developed a Wednesday night "Feed the Flock" program that included scripture teaching and dinner for all comers at the last church her husband, a Methodist pastor, led.  Her own health has led her into healthy eating.

Angela Mager RN, certified health coach

Angela Mager is an RN, and Holistic Health Coach.  She helps women over 40 get to the root cause of hormonal imbalances that prevent them from feeling energetic, sleeping well, and achieving their ideal body weight.  She received her BSN from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

She earned coaching certifications from The American Council on Exercise and The Health Coach Institute.  She is currently studying to achieve the distinction: practitioner of Applied Functional Medicine.

Sarah is the Lamb's Tale administrative assistant, and has many other talents:

"I have lived in the Fredericksburg for 3 years now, and I enjoyed working for a local farm-fresh food store, which sparked my interest to learn more about how our food is produced. I married my husband 2 years ago and I became a homemaker soon after; less than a year later I gave birth to our daughter.

Life is now a unique blend of crazy and busy, and it’s typically in that order! With a 1 year old in tow and a few part-time jobs it’s crucial for me to prioritize the important things in life, my family’s health being a top one.

I currently instruct Zumba with 7 years of experience, Zumbini (a mommy and me class), and other various aerobic formats ranging from Barre to Sit to be Fit, all ages included! I also co-host and manage a lovely bed and breakfast in Fredericksburg with my husband, and I play an administrative assistant role for Lamb’s Tale Ministries.

I hope to share what I know about exercise with all who attend."
