Program Description:

In an interactive workshop setting, participants will explore best practices guidelines and evidence that either supports or refutes many common practices that are part of our workday. Through case-based examples we will review the evidence that may or may not support the use of various tests, screening tools and treatments, helping the clinician to utilize resources appropriately. Attend and discover what you may be ordering or prescribing that may have no support in the scientific literature. In the words of Spike Lee, "Time to do the right thing."

After active engagement in this program, participants will be better able to:

  • Identify a schedule of periodic health review for each patient and determine the necessary (if any) blood work to order
  • Recommend appropriate patient-centered approaches for screening breast, cervical, colon and prostate cancer
  • Identify appropriate imaging for low back pain, knee pain, breast fibroadenoma, ovarian cyst, thyroid nodules and headaches
  • Recognize when to stop prescribing protein pump inhibitors and when statins should be used for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease
  • Integrate the ability to decline requests for inappropriate testing and treatment into practice
  • Describe the Choosing Wisely Canada campaign and access its resources for providers and patients

FEE: $600.00 plus HST
