Winner of the 1985 Pulitzer Prize, The Tony Award, and the 1991 Olivier Award, this hauntingly beautiful musical is inspired by Georges Seurat's painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La GRande Jatte". Amid the scorn of the 1880's artistic Parisian elite, we experience Seurat's struggles as he leads the way in Neo-Impreessionism exploring color and light. 100 years later, we meet his American descendant, an avante-garde technology artist uncertain of his creative path and the artists' dilemma of funding creativity. This challenging and heartwarming workreafirms our need to connect to the past, present and future.
A wonderful musical for folks of all ages.
