Bret Wells

Bret Wells is the Law Foundation Professor at the University of Houston Law Center, where he has served on the full-time faculty since 2011. He graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law. Wells received his B.B.A. (Accounting) from Southwestern University and earned the Outstanding Accountancy Award as the top accounting graduate. Wells is an expert on international and business tax as well as oil and gas law. Before beginning his teaching career, Wells was the Vice-President, Treasurer, and Chief Tax Officer for a multinational company that provided oilfield services, with employees in 50 countries. He also worked as the Assistant General Tax Counsel at Cargill, Inc. and as an associate attorney at Baker & Botts, LLP. 

Mr. Wells has testified as an expert witness on tax matters before the U.S. Congress multiple times and has made many presentations to academic and bar groups. He is the co-author on three highly-regarded business tax textbooks. His scholarship focuses on international tax, business tax, and oil and gas law.
