IPMBA Bicycle Response Team Course 2017

This IPMBA course is presented by Cypress Creek EMS and is designed to train the public safety cyclist (Police/EMS) to work in crowd control situations. It expands on the basic skills to include crowd management tactics and control techniques and casualty extractions.  It is not designed to replace Civil Disturbance Units.  BRT is the First Responders for Civil Disturbance Units.  Cross training officers in both disciplines (Bike and Civil Distrurbance) is becoming more common place in most large departments.

Protests are becoming more and more common.  Social media has spawned crowds and riots in unlikely places, and bike officers are uniquely qualified to handle them.  And who better than a bike medic to ensure prompt medical attention is rendered if a team member or bystander is injured?

Following the Grand Jury ruling in Ferguson, security consultant Jim Fuda described Bicycle Response Teams as the "cutting edge of crowd control".  Due in large part to their use of bikes, Seattle Police were able to keep protesters in check and violence from erupting.   Read more here:  http://ipmba.org/blog/comments/seattle-police-department-evolves-in-handling-protests-that-turn-violent.

Whether you are preparing for political events, visiting dignitaries, parties and raves, or just expecting your team to make it to the championship, this course will prepare you to manage your crowds and ensure prompt patient care in crowd situations.  Practical exercises include formations and deployment, single- and double-column riding, arrest/rescue techniques, squad withdrawal, and gas mask drills, complete with smoke and noise!  Open to experienced Police and EMS cyclists only.

If paying by PO or check choose Pay at the Door.  If you wish to use the Parade Scholarship offer, you must agree to and committ to participating in the 1960 St Patrick's Day Parade on March 12, 2017.  Contact Wren Nealy for more information at 281-378-0826.
