Practicing self-care during a pandemic is an essential way to keep ourselves afloat and functioning during these uncertain times. While many have been relying on temporary “surge capacity” to get through in the short-term, it is important to start thinking about other styles of coping that will help you get through long periods of disaster. Karina Hagelin (they/them), an artist, community organizer, and librarian from New York with expertise in creating trauma-informed libraries, will be leading this Info2Go! session. They will draw upon their professional expertise within librarianship and their personal experiences as a disabled and chronically ill queer femme survivor to discuss concrete and accessible self-care strategies and skills, describe the importance, role, and application of community care, and identify ways in which trauma-informed librarianship can teach us how to sustainably support ourselves and each other.
