Public Library Directors' Summit 2018 

This 2-day event will focus on communicating your library's message with confidence and building a future-ready library through staff and trustee development all while providing an opportunity for you to build your own strong and supportive network of peers.

March 1, 2018: 1:00pm - 8:00pm*, includes dinner with guest speaker John Watts

March 2, 2018: 8:30am - 4:30pm*

Event Goals:

  • A connected network of public library directors,
  • Confident communication on behalf of libraries' needs, accomplishments, and possibilities, and
  • The library community is sustaining future-ready libraries.

Facilitator:  Carson Block
As a consultant, Carson is often brought in to help solve complex institutional issues and to help align the library’s public service mission with its technology efforts to serve the needs of patrons and staff. Carson is a humorous, energetic and engaging facilitator, and a frequent speaker and webinar presenter for library events and beyond – including bringing messages of library advocacy to South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) in 2012 and 2013 (covered by Time magazine at http://techland.time.com/2012/03/11/sxsw-the-fate-of-libraries/). 

What To Expect:

  • Spend part of each day in unstructured networking with your fellow participants,
  • Identify others in the community with similar community or library needs and services for future networking,
  • Create and share a story demonstrating an achievement in your library that can be used in building support,
  • Practice in a safe environment communicating your library's value to others,
  • Identify the successful skills future library staff will need and how to begin building them, and
  • Identify the desirable knowledge and skills for library trustees in the future and how to begin building them.

ICfL will provide:

  • Travel - Airfare or mileage costs reimbursed to participants traveling from more than 50 miles from the event site.
  • Lodging - Up to 2 nights for participants traveling from more than 50 miles from the event site.
  • Meals and Refreshments - Afternoon snacks and dinner on Thursday, March 1. Morning & afternoon snacks plus lunch on Friday, March 2.
