MORNING SESSION

Working with Homless Families

Morning Check-in: 8:30 AM | Training Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Presented by: Kathy Daniher, MA, LCPC, Director of Intact Services at Kaleidoscope. (Short bio)

Homelessness is traumatic.  When a family finds themselves without the basic necessities for survival it is our job to provide the support and services necessary for them to obtain stability.  We must understand that housing is not a privilege but a human right.  We provide services for families based on the needs that they have and their housing is not contingent upon these services.  This training will define and discuss housing first and will discuss how utilizing a harm reduction approach that incorporates motivational interviewing can help families gain stability.

AFTERNOON SESSION

Working with LGBTQ Individuals

 Afternoon Check-in: 1:00 PM  | Training Time:  1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Presented by: Jonna J. Cooley, PhD, Executive Director of the Phoenix Center.          (Short bio)

Research indicates that between 5-10% of the U.S. population identifies as LGBTQ. This is a cultural competence training to remove barriers to working with LGBTQ individuals. Participants will leave with a deeper awareness of their own stereotypes and assumptions and an increased comfort level in working with LGBTQ individuals along with resources to help them better serve the LGBTQ community.  In this presentation, we will also weave the impact of behavioral health and homelessness on the LGBTQ community in the training.

Continuing Education Units: We have applied for Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA).  Certificates will be provided at the end of the training.
