2nd Annual Conference
Our second annual conference will provide a variety of options to families, educators, and related service providers to expand their understanding and ability to support individuals with autism. Participants will have a choice of topics this years. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be included in the cost of a ticket.

Amalia Starr, Parent/Author/Motivational Speaker Learn how Amalia led her son Brandon to independence when it was deemed impossible.

“Methods to Reduce Problem Behavior During Classroom Instruction and Daily Activities” Kristin Albert, M.Ed., BCBA, The Carbone Clinic Participants will learn to describe the causes and conditions that trigger problem behavior, identify appropriate treatment protocols, and monitor their effectiveness in the home and school setting.

Part 1 – “Hopes, Dreams and Fears: An Independence Training Program for Parents” Part 2 - “How to Prepare You and Your Child For the Future and Beyond”
Amalia Starr, Parent/Author/Motivational Speaker This is a discussion-based interactive session exploring the transitional stages of independence and understanding the importance between being an enabler and an observer, how to let go, and when good enough is good enough, and more. The second part of this session will help to lessen your fears while motivating and encouraging you to take the first step of planning for the future and beyond.

“Teaching Social Skills to Children with Autism” Missy Kupper, M.Ed., BCBA Continuum Autism Spectrum Alliance Participants will gain insight into the importance of teaching communication and social skills to children with ASD. The presentation will also focus on how teaching social skills can lead to a reduction in challenging behavior.

“Sensory Processing and Autism Spectrum Disorders” Shiraz Kashani, M.S., OTR/L & Jennifer Blair, OTR/L, BCP, Sensational Kids Therapy Participants will be gain an understanding of sensory processing and its role in self-regulation, learning, and social participation. Strategies and resources to help with functioning at home, in the classroom, and in the community will be provided.
PM SESSION 2 – CHOOSE ONE SESSION
“Learning the Basics of Using Effective Schedules to Promote Independence with Activities of Daily Living” Cheryl Goff, M.S., BCBA Continuum Autism Spectrum Alliance Participants will learn various types of schedules covering a range of activities of daily living. The presentation will also incorporate the use of technology and the principles of behavior to promote independence and generalization of these skills.

“Facing the Future Head On" Hannah Klausner, M.S., & Neena Lobo, M.S., CCC-SLP Kennedy Krieger School – Montgomery County Participants will learn practical prompting strategies, environmental cues and structure, and real world experiences that assist individuals in preparing for independent futures.
