The Rev. Colette Wood is the author of Do This, Remembering Me: The Spiritual Care of Those with Alzheimer’s and Dementia; chaplain to two senior living facilities in Massachusetts, including their memory care units; and is rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in Whitman, Massachusetts. Wood has faced dementia at a more personal level when her father began to manifest symptoms of Alzheimer’s. Her presentations combine clinical and personal perspectives.
Of people living with dementia, Wood says, “When everything else is crumbling around them, God remains intact and is very present. Faith is etched in the heart and spirit, so it only stands to reason that dementia cannot rob people of their faith. While the disease steals many things, the presence of a loving, healing God is remembered and is very real to those with memory loss.”
