Advanced HR Skills Workshop: Staying Ahead of New Developments in Sexual Harassment, Immigration and Independent "Gig" Contract Workers

The employment law team of Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry, S.C. is pleased to invite you to attend our 2018 Advanced HR Skills Workshop on Wednesday April 25, 2018.

Epic developments are impacting many key workplace laws, and those developments will have significant repercussions for years to come.  These include:

  • Revolutionary changes in sexual harassment rules and the legal requirements of employers for preventing and responding to workplace harassment.
  • New immigration rules which dramatically increase legal risks to employers and necessitate changes in hiring processes, systems for completion of I-9 forms, internal audit practices and staff training obligations.
  • Shocking new changes in federal and state laws which are heralding in a new era in the use of independent contractors (so-called “Gig workers”) and the anticipated creation of a new “Gig Economy.”

Human Resource professionals and managers of all levels, and businesses of all sizes, will need to dramatically alter past practices and become trained on these rapidly-changing rules.  Because these developments are so profound, and because the necessary changes to achieve compliance are so urgent and complex, the LCOJ employment team has created this workshop to arm participants with the necessary tools to respond to and embrace the changes while minimizing legal risks.  Our workshop will include, but are not limited to, the following discussions and materials:

  • The new rules governing harassment in the workplace (including discussion of the new EEOC Guidance expected to be issued before the workshop)
  • Sample training programs for participants to use to train supervisors on properly identifying and responding to harassment
  • Updated guidelines for investigating harassment claims.
  • Discussion of new harassment regulations which impact severance agreements, arbitration agreements, confidentiality agreements, personal liability of supervisors and managers, training requirements and other personnel practices and forms
  • Review of new I-9 forms and new immigration rules impacting all employers
  • Explanation of E-Verify procedures, and anticipated expansion of compulsory use for most employers
  • Conducting self-audits of I-9 forms before a federal agency springs a surprise audit
  • What you can and cannot do when you discover non-compliant I-9 forms
  • I-9 requirements when hiring remote employees
  • Sample training programs for staff responsible for completing I-9 forms
  • New federal and state laws impacting use of independent contractor/Gig workers and the new “Gig economy”
  • Steps to take to safely expand your use of non-employee workers
  • Sample checklists and contract clauses for contracting with “Gig workers”

We will also, at no extra cost, be available during the lunch and break periods to discuss, confidentially, as time permits, any specific employment law issues you may be experiencing at your workplace.

Registration will commence at 9:30 a.m. at the William Larsen Event Hall located on the third floor of The Cannery building, 320 N. Broadway, Green Bay, WI 54303.   The workshop will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude at 4:00 p.m., with a social hour at the location to follow.   Lunch will be provided to participants at no extra charge.

The tuition for the workshop is $345, which covers the first two attendees per employer.  The cost of the third and each additional attendee is $100.  We anticipate that the workshop will qualify for at least six SHRM and/or SPHR credits.
