For Volunteers

All cleanup volunteers are encouraged to gather at the Lockhart City Park Main Pavilion by no later than 9 AM.

To help reduce refuse at our event, we encourage volunteers to bring their own coffee mugs and water bottles.

Please Be Aware: Depending on the COVID-19 situation, we may modify the event's structure to ensure social distancing and additional satefy protocols. This change would likely entail volunteers meeting at their selected locations rather than meeting as a large group at the City Park Pavillion. All changes will be communicated via email and social media.

**We need 6 Crew Leaders** Crew Leaders are responsible for helping distribute extra supplies (trash bags, first aid kits, etc.) and support for their selected location. If you would like to be a crew leader, please contact Christina at clopez@plumcreekwatershed.org or at 830-557-7358.

Upon arrival, volunteers will identify their selected location, greet Crew Leader, and gather supplies. We will review drop-off locations, satefy information, and enjoy breakfast. Before venturing out, please participate in the group photo.

Volunteers are encouraged to walk or carpool the short distance to your selected location. All litter collected should be left at designated drop-off locations.

Attire: Dress appropriate for the weather to be comfortable in outdoor temperatures and conditions for several hours. Long pants, a hat, and closed-toe shoes are recommended.

Equipment: If you have your own, please bring gloves, pick up tool (grabber), walking stick, bug spray, and sunscreen. Gloves and grabbers will be available.

Transportation: You will be able to select which site you clean up, but you will have to provide your own transportation to/from the site. If you do not have/want transportation to an off-site cleanup, please select the City Park site.

Safety:

  • Children should be supervised at all times.
  • Do not cross fences or private property.
  • Watch for wildlife, particularly snakes.
  • Be aware of posion ivy. Video: How to identify poison ivy
  • Watch for traffic and always be cautious along roadways and creek banks for hazards. Crossing roadways by foot is not safe, and volunteers should "pick" a side of the roadway and try to reduce road crossings as much as possible.
  • Do not pick up hazardous materials like needles.
