The Great Griffon Tailgate Cook-off!

Fire up your grills for the First Great Griffon Tailgate Cook-off sponsored by the Missouri Western Alumni Association, St. Joseph Chapter; and Missouri Western Athletics. Everyone -- alumni, students, faculty, staff and St. Joseph community members -- are welcome to enter. Who will hold this year's bragging rights? It might be you.

Here are the rules:

1. Anyone can enter -- alumni, students, faculty/staff, community members. If you're a Griffon Fan, this contest is for you!

2. Semi-final rounds will be held on the following dates: September 12, October 10 and October 31.

3. The following items will be judged on these dates:

September 12 -- Hamburgers
October 10 -- Brats and/or Sausage
October 31 -- Chili

3. Entrants will be judged on the following:

Griffon spirit in tailgate area (5 points)
Appearance of food (5 points)
Taste (10 points)

4. Each team must check in at the Alumni Association tent between 10 and 11 a.m. Teams will receive one styrofoam box per judge with a team number. Judging is blind. Only the event coordinator(s) will know which team is assigned which number. Numbers will be assigned in order of check-in.

5. Entries are due to the Alumni Association tent at noon

6. All teams must adhere to the Missouri Western State University Tailgate Policy found online at: http://gogriffons.com/documents/2013/9/5/Tailgate_policy_9.5.13.pdf

Winners of each semi-final event will receive a trophy, a $50 gift card to Apple Market courtesy of Apple Market and Griffon Athletics, and will be entered into the Great Griffon Tailgate Cook-off to be held on November 14. If a team should win two or more times during the semi-final rounds, the second and/or third place winner that week will be entered into the final contest.

Finalists in the Great Griffon Tailgate Cook-off on November 14 will be judged on their entire tailgate experience. The Grand Champion winner will receive a $50 gift card to Apple Market, the Grand Champion trophy and two tickets -- including bus transportation to and from campus and tailgate activities -- to the Alumni Association's annual Alumni Day at the K to be held in the summer of 2016.
