In celebration of the freedom to read, Storrs Library and the Hatch Library at Bay Path University are sponsoring "Read Out" events to observe Banned Books Week. On Tuesday, September 23 at 6:00 p.m., Storrs Library staff encourages patrons, employees, board members and library supporters to participate in this year's Read Out by reading aloud for up to 5 minutes from a favorite book that may have been banned or challenged at some time for whatever reason.
At 6:30 p.m. there will be a screening of The Outsiders, based on the controversial coming-of-age novel by S.E. Hinton. This 1983 film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is noted for its cast of then up-and-coming stars, including Rob Lowe, Emilo Estevez, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze and Diane Lane.
