 5th Annual
 Day of Volunteering


The day will begin with 8:00am Mass, sending all volunteers onward with a blessing.  Project leaders will meet volunteers at the AMC parking lot at 8:30am.


Habitat for Humanity - Home Restoration (limited to 40)
Age restriction: 16 and older

7:00am - 3:00pm (Please arrive at the church at 7:00am)
                            (This group can plan to attend Saturday 5pm Mass after the build)

Volunteers will work on an existing home in need of repair (in Bellflower). Activities include using power tools, sledge hammers (for demolition), being on ladders for roofing, possible painting and gardening.
Water will be provided. Please bring a lunch.

Senior Home Visit  (limited to 20)   All ages welcome!

8:30am - ??
The Life & Family Ministry will lead a group to the Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Hermosa Beach to visit residents, read to them, play cards, participate in various activities. Young children need supervision by parents or guardians. 
 

Hearts for the Hungry, St. Lawrence of Brindisi   All ages welcome!

8:30 - 9:15am for lunch making
Volunteers will meet in the SS. Brigid & Brendan Room to make sandwiches
and assemble lunch bags (chips, fruit, etc.) and toiletry packages (shampoo/conditioner/toothpaste/soap.)
9:15 - 10:30am  Optional: Travel to St. Lawrence of Brindisi in Watts
Deliver and distribute lunches/toiletries/clothes & children's books and participate in book reading to SLB children.

Star House
Age restriction: 16 and older

STAR House provides a place for developmentally disabled adults to live and thrive.

        9:00-12:00noon
 

General repair and maintenance projects. Enjoy time together with the residents.
Materials to bring: Work clothes, gloves, boots, hat, water
(lunch and snacks will be provided)

Covenant House
Age restriction: 25 and older. Liability waiver to be signed.

8:30am meet in parking lot to carpool
The Life & Family Ministry will lead a group to the Covenant House of California.
(1325 n. Western Ave, LA) that assists homeless youths.

Projects are: general building repair and maintenance building, various organizing and cleaning projects. Materials to bring: gloves, hats, sunscreen.

Other ways to participate: bing donations to the church parking lot before the team leaves at 8:30am - new men's and women's socks, new men's underwear, new pillows and pillowcases.

Heal the Bay Beach Cleanup  An all-age, family project.

9:00am - 11:00am 
Volunteers meet at the foot of Manhattan Beach pier by the bike path/lifeguard tower. Guest speaker is scheduled to appear at 9:00am.
Waivers will be distributed and filled out before the clean-up. Gloves and bags will be supplied. Please bring own sunscreen and water. 


St. Vincent de Paul Bundle "Saturday"

8:30am - 1:00pm
The "Bundle" truck will be heSt. V de Paulre to collect your useable clothing and useable household items. They are also in great need of furniture and large appliances. Call them for home pick-up of these heavy items, 323-224-6280 or 800-97-HELP-1.

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
Age restriction: 14 and older

Meet at the LA Food Bank (2825 E. Street, Vernon, CA) at 8:30am to assemble food packages for children and seniors in Los Angeles County. Prior registration with LA Food Bank is required. Email Kathleen Truman for registration link.

Ten Thousand Villages

10:00am - 6:00pm
Come to the store (1907 S. Catalina Ave., in the Riviera Village area of Redondo Beach) to learn more about how the store’s mission to help artisans in developing countries through fair trade, and find out more about volunteering on a regular basis.

Shop all day on Saturday, April 8 - 15% of sales by AMC shoppers will be donated back to the church through the Matthew 25 Ministry.
