    Small Parish Forum 2018

For clergy and lay leaders from small Orthodox churches, the Small Parish Forum is designed to share helpful, hopeful ideas and tools for stabilizing and strengthening parish life.

Co-sponsored by the OCA’s Archdiocese of Western Pennsylvania, Diocese of the Midwest and the Bulgarian Diocese, host parish for the 2018 Forum is St. George Cathedral in Rossford (Toledo) OH.

$100 per attendee registration fee includes  lunches, dinners, breaks, an attendee reception Friday night & conference materials.

"Small" is Not a Problem, Virtue - or Excuse

A clinic is not a large metropolitan hospital with fewer beds and small churches are not immature versions of large parishes. They think, act and feel different. To build a briight future small parishes need to tune their efforts to emphasize their unique identity -- taking advantage of the intimacy inherent in their modest size. And, most critically, small churches can't use their small size as an excuse for inactivity and mediocrity.

The Forum provides small parishes with motivation, and encouragement to establish a sense that small parishes can live a Life in Christ without becoming “big”.

Generate, Envision, Communicate, Inspire and Stimulate

A combination of lectures, case studies, discussion,  workshops and group conversations will enable Forum attendees to explore the theme "Equipping Small Parish Leaders for Discipleship and Change".

The Forum will explore discipleship in an Orthodox context and examine approaches to leading change. Of particular interest will be reshaping councils and leaders. Moving beyond traditional focus on bills, budgets and buildings and providing tools to:

    • Generate Dialogue - "Find the center" in parish discussions. Minimize polarization & bruised egos,
    • Envision a Bright Future - Express purpose and direction
    • Communicate Identity - Share distinctive strengths & parish hospitality
    • Inspire Stewardship - Replace begging and continual pleas with generosity & gratitude.
    • Stimulate Ministry - Build a thirst for outreach. Overcome insularity.

    Who Should Attend?

Clergy & lay leaders from small Orthodox & Byzantine Catholic parishes should attend. Forum content is fresh for 2018. Past participants will find new ideas, topics & speakers. Forum faculty are experienced in small church life.
