 The Moment of Now

We are honoured and excited to welcome Dr. Elliot Zeisel for a day of learning together.

Workshop Description: In this unique workshop Dr. Zeisel will both describe and illustrate the importance and value of being in the Moment of Now. This awareness begins with the therapist being keenly aware of their own experience of being in the now and being able to appreciate how the client’s experience of the moment is connected to their ongoing life issues. This is the key to formulating interventions. This process assists group members in self-understanding as well as looking at their interpersonal connections in the group.

Following a theoretical overview Dr. Zeisel will invite 8 people to participate in an experiential learning opportunity. This fishbowl will be repeated several times during the day to illustrate the developmental process of interventions.   Observers will be invited to select an issue such as transference, countertransference, humor, conflict, curiosity etc, and see how these issues emerged in the group. After each fishbowl we will explore the various themes that the observers had been monitoring and how these elements emerged in the here and now.

Learning Goals

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify and appreciate the importance of working in the here and now.
  • Understand the elements involved in developing effective interventions in group.
  • Have a heightened sense of what they are actually observing in group and be able to use that awareness to develop more effective interventions.
  • Address group resistance to the here and now.
  • Remain grounded in the here and now while having access to their cognitive processing.
