Please join the inaugural International Employers Forum in Tokyo, Japan as we host an informative and practical day-long program on doing business in the United States, China, and Europe. Our international panel will feature legal practitioners from around the globe who will offer their perspective on key employment issues in these markets while highlighting the differences with the Japanese market. Attendees will gain an understanding of the issues that could present challenges and opportunities in these growing markets.
The International Employers Forum ("IEF") is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing current and relevant information and networking opportunities for legal and human resources professionals whose organizations employ workers globally. The IEF is an important and vibrant forum for professionals to engage in discussion and share ideas, meet others responsible for global employment practices, and learn about new and evolving employment laws and procedures in countries throughout the world.

Program Agenda

9:30 – 9:45 a.m. – Event Welcome & Launch of Asia Chapter of International Employers Forum
9:45 – 10:45 a.m. – Panel 1 – Internal Investigations
The need for Japanese companies to conduct internal investigations has dramatically increased in recent years. Our panelists will discuss how to identify and mitigate the risks of potential issues in investigations of employee wrongdoings, such as fraudulent conduct, workplace abuse, and harassment. We will examine approaches to conducting efficient, discreet, and cost-effective investigations.

11:00 – 12:00 noon - Panel 2 – Restrictive Covenants and Non-Compete
Our panelists will discuss the elements of effectively managing your company’s trade secrets and utilizing restrictive covenants as your company enters new international markets. This overview will provide insights for both establishing new operations and expanding current operations in these markets.
12:00 noon to 1:15 p.m. – Lunch and Keynote Presentation
1:15 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. – Panel 3 – Compensation & Pensions
Our Compensation & Pensions Panel will address general compensation and pensions matters (including a comparison of the pensions systems in different jurisdictions), compliance and government investigations along with newer issues related to pay equity audits and litigation.
2:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Afternoon Break
2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Panel 4 – Terminations
Attendees will learn about the appropriate processes for terminating employees in each of our international jurisdictions while hearing panelists discuss the areas that can leave a company exposed to liabilities for an improper termination.
3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Panel 5 – Labor Relationship
Our panelists will discuss cultural differences in management-labor relationships. We will provide practical guidance on the best practices to implement for maintaining positive employee relations, as well as proven recommendations to avoid labor problems from ever occurring.
