Please join CFA Columbus in welcoming our expert panel of speakers for the February 2 luncheon. This discussion will be moderated by CFA Columbus Programming Chair, Chris Brinich, CFA:

"Investing in the legal US cannabis market & Panel Discussion" 

KEY Investment Partners, Merida Capital, and Dickinson Writght will discuss investing in the legal US cannabis market. Specifically, the panel will give an overview of the legal US cannabis market progression (size & growth), regulatory initiatives, drivers behind the current industry funding gap, relative attractiveness of different subsectors, types of business models expected to be long term winners. Attendees will walk away with conversational knowledge around the dynamics of the legal U.S. cannabis industry and will learn novel ways of investing in the space. 

  

Benton B. Bodamer - is an M&A and Private Equity partner in the Columbus office of international law firm Dickinson Wright PLLC and has advised on over $100 billion of transactions over 17+ years.  Benton serves on Dickinson’s governing board, and is Co-Chair of the firm’s 50+ attorney Cannabis Group.  He has researched and advocated for responsible drug policy for decades, including published work on social and legal frameworks for the regulation of human consciousness, award-winning research at Harvard on the use of hallucinogenic toads as ritualized medicine, and graduate research at Cambridge University on new approaches to identifying novel compounds for pharmaceutical research.  He serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, working with the College’s Drug Enforcement Policy Center and focusing on legal considerations for emerging state-compliant cannabis and psychedelics businesses.

Tiby Erdely - Founding Partner - At KEY Investment Partners, Tiby is responsible for structuring and leading investment opportunities, developing the marketing and client relations initiatives, driving firmwide strategic initiatives, conducting due diligence on deal opportunities, driving proactive outreach for deal sourcing opportunities, and leading co-investment syndication processes. Erdely championed and led KEY’s first investment in BDS Analytics (‘BDSA’) and championed the formation of KEY’s advisory board. Erdely currently sits on the Board of Open Book Extracts, Katalys and Day Three Labs, KEY portfolio companies.

Prior to co-founding KEY, Tiby spent three years as a member of Partners Group’s (SIX: PGHN) client solutions team, where he was responsible for raising flagship funds and sourcing opportunities. While at Partners Group, Tiby worked with the various deal teams learning P  artners Group’s approach to sourcing deals and conducting due diligence.

Prior to Partners Group, Tiby spent four years with Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS), working most recently for the Fundamental Equity team in Goldman Sachs Asset Management (‘GSAM’).

Tiby was born and raised in San Antonio, TX and holds a BBA in Finance from The University of Texas at San Antonio where he graduated with honors. In his free time, Tiby enjoys skiing, traveling, hiking and live music.

Mina Mishrikey, CFA - Partner, Head of Investments, Merida Capital Holdings - 

Mina leads the Investment Team at Merida Capital Holdings, a private equity firm targeting fundamental growth drivers underpinning the rapid development of the cannabis industry. In his role, Mina is responsible for deal sourcing, due diligence, portfolio analysis and management and sits on the firm’s Investment Committee. Mina also represents Merida in its capacity as a sub-advisor for rePlant Hemp Impact Fund, which is focused on investing in hemp-based technologies to decarbonize the global economy. He serves on the board of several portfolio companies, including Henry’s Original, Canadian Rockies Hemp Corporation, Cellibre, Phylos Bioscience, and Pantry Food Co. Prior to joining Merida, he co-founded and served as CFO of Philagrow, a Pennsylvania-based medical marijuana company. Mina spent the bulk of his career doing Investment Banking advisory work, most recently at Deutsche Bank from 2006 to 2017, where he led the North American structured finance derivatives business. Mina obtained a B.S. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Finance concentration. He is a CFA® Charterholder and a CPA (inactive).
