2017 A Pilgrim's Process

I hope you will consider participating in A Pilgrim's Process. This is Rhythm of Grace's essential training in spiritual formation; it provides a look at and practice opportunities of a lifestyle for following Jesus beyond the early stages of discipleship. Read more about this course below.

A Pilgrim's Process

Pilgrims are people on a journey traveling from one place to another. Followers of Christ are on a spiritual pilgrimage. The Christian’s pilgrimage moves through the awakening of the spirit, involvement with Scripture, and the exercise of spiritual gifts. For many the journey stalls here.

But the full pilgrimage is designed to continue into the treacherous and difficult regions of our ongoing discipleship consisting of inner transformation. The ultimate destination this side of glory, according to Scripture, is Christlikeness. This is the lifestyle of maturing disciples.

There have been many pilgrims in previous generations who have given us ‘way markers’ to mark the distinctive terrain of our inner transformation. If we pay attention to their suggestions and insights we can proceed with faith on this path of God’s vision for our lives.

A Pilgrim’s Process is designed to expose followers of Christ to these classic ‘way makers’ necessary for those whose dream and hope for this life is greater than their current experience; for those who desire to be formed into the image of Christ.

The Process

Our pilgrimage is a lifelong process of spiritual formation and maturing discipleship. In every Christian tradition God has given wisdom regarding this process. A Pilgrim’s Process is an experience designed to learn from these various traditions. The outcome is to provide the necessary tools an individual will need to follow Christ through the terrain of the difficult days found in their continuing discipleship and maturing of faith development. We do not provide a cookie cutter, one size fits all, model. Each Pilgrim is unique unto themselves. The tools provided are to be used in crafting a unique pilgrimage.

Toward this goal, the 2017 edition will utilize three weekend retreat experiences and spiritual direction appointments designed to help integrate cognitive information with the real life experiences of each individual. Participants will attend all three retreat experiences. Each experience combines lecture and personal time and space for reflection on God’s invitations. The optional spiritual direction appointments, occurring throughout, allow opportunities for the individual to question, experiment, and to receive the support necessary to achieve appropriate integration.

The Topics

There are three primary topics covered through the course.

 A Look at the Map

These lessons unfold the big picture of the allurement to Christlikeness. The participant will discover a clearer picture of where their heart has intended to go, the process to get there, and the means by which they will progress.

 Packing for the Journey

A detailed description of the “survival kit” necessary for all who desire to move toward Christlikeness will be outlined. Additional ‘way markers,’ useful for the journey, will also be introduced in these lessons.

 A Rhythm of Grace

Opportunity is given to pack all the tools into an appropriate structure personally designed to allow God’s grace to transform their life; ultimately bringing influence on the world around them, as well as the next generation of pilgrims.

An Invitation

Rhythm of Grace is a center for spiritual formation. All of our ministries assist in the process of Christian faith development. Those who participate are often re-evaluating the direction his or her Christian life is heading. These evaluations occur during natural changes in life stages or through times of personal crisis. These changes can result in times of darkness, dryness, or times of simple curiosity about the Christian life and questioning, “Is this all it is? Is my life really different than before I came to Christ?”

A Pilgrim’s Process is taught through our center and in retreat formats. We are also available to provide special offerings of this spiritual formation process in your area or setting. Contact us to explore the possibility of joining us or having us come to your group.

The next generation of A Pilgrim’s Process will be taught on three weekend retreats; February 10-12, April 21-22, and September 8-10. Each retreat begins on Friday evening at 7:00 PM and concludes on Sunday morning at 11:00 AM. All retreats are held at Conception Abbey (37174 State Highway VV, Conception, MO 64433, about 90 minutes north of Kansas City).

Because of a generous grant given to Rhythm of Grace for           A Pilgrim's Process the cost for all three retreat experiences and optional spiritual direction sessions is only $450. That makes each retreat $150 with optional spiritual direction between retreats! There are futher scholarships available.
