"The Price of Silence" Viewing 

United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona will be hosting a viewing of a short film called "The Price of Silence." The film's description is below and the producer of the film is looking for feedback once you have viewed the film. Description of film: 

Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST) is defined as "the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision or obtaining of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act where the person is a US citizen or lawful permanent resident under the age of 18. There is no requirement to prove force, fraud or coercion was used to secure the victim's actions when they are under the age of eighteen under the United States federal law, the 2000 Trafficking Victims' Protection Act (TVPA.)

Soroptimist International of Desert Tucson club, an international organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls locally and around the world, sponsored and produced the 22 minute film, "The Price of Silence."

The film's purpose is to alert parents, caregivers and human service workers to the dangers of domestic minor sex trafficking  in the Southern Arizona community. It covers the true stories of teen victims of sex trafficking in southern Arizona. Its focus is on two paths into trafficking. One is the seduction of a naive Tucson teen at a bus stop on her way home from school. The other victim is an incest survivor from Yuma.

DMST is seldom discussed in Tucson which makes those under 18 all the more vulnerable as targets for predators. However, the an arrest occurred as recently as September, 2012 in Tucson. (Story on  http://streetlighttucson.com)  The film includes experts' comments on how to prevent this crime and the role of healing in the process for survivors.
