Session Information:
- Overview of an Oral Trial and Prosecutorial Ethics: The presentation will discuss how oral trials are conducted in Arizona, with some comparison to how they are conducted in Mexico. The presenter will also discuss the special ethical rules that apply to prosecutors.
Presenter: Frank Collins is a legal advisor and curriculum developer for the Conference of Western Attorneys General. He has directed multiple training programs, including oral trail training, team training, train the trainer and money laundering conferences. As part of his work, he designs programs, develops curriculum, creates presentations, chooses instructors and serves as an instructor himself.
- Interpreting for a Deaf Juror: Process and Protocol
Presenter: Michelle Monahan has been a professional sign language interpreter since 1997. In addition to interpreting, Michelle teaches, mentors and trains interpreters just entering the field. Michelle completed a Masters Degree in Legal Studies from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law and holds CI/CT, NIC-Master and SC:L certifications from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Recently she worked as a staff interpreter for the Maricopa County Superior court and she is currently a full time faculty member at the Phoenix College Interpreter Preparation Program.
