Program Objectives

Assessment and Treatment of Anxiety in Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • To review recent literature of phenomenology, contributing factors, and pathophysiological models of anxiety in youth with ASD.
  • To review treatment data and provide clinical guidelines to manage this condition.  Clinical cases will be discussed.

Psychiatric Genomics and Pharmacogenomics: What the Clinician Needs to Know

  • To introduce recent advances in identifying genetic risk for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression among other brain diseases
  • To identify important considerations in interpreting genetic studies and pharmacogenetic studies
  • To describe the recent progress in understanding the association between genetic variation and treatment outcomes.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

  • Review principles and mechanism of TMS.
  • Discuss the rationale for using TMS in psychiatric disorders and its current regulatory status
  • Describe the risks and side effects of TMS.
  • Describe the safety and logistical issues associated with TMS therapy.
  • Review current efficacy data for major depression as well as other indications.

Continuing Medical Education Credits
