2011 Raising the Bar Fundraising Banquet 

This year, our banquet theme is “One by One” — an apt description of the last two digits of the year as one stands by the other one. That’s how we approach our work.

One by one, our volunteer and staff attorneys meet with no-income and low-income individuals to resolve legal problems that come with a season of poverty.  Our volunteer financial counselors assist them with budget planning and debt reduction.  Our conflict coaches help them learn to resolve issues and prevent future problems.

One by one, we fight for every person's right to be treated with dignity as they seek justice for themselves and their families. 

But the need for our services is exploding beyond our capacity to help everyone who needs it. By the end of July, we had already seen as many clients in 2011 as we did in all of 2010!  You can see why financial support is a critical issue for us this year.

We need more attorneys to come along side victims of fraud and abuse.  We need to add more branch locations so that people can find help and hope nearer to home (some of our clients travel up to 2 hours one way just to reach one of our offices because there is so little legal aid offered in the suburbs).  We need to adequately staff our locations to reduce wait times that can stretch out up to 3 weeks.  That's a terribly long time for someone to wait and worry about getting relief.
