CAMTS 2014 Workshops - 9/21/2014

“Quality and Utilization Management: Doing Things Right and Doing the Right Things”

8:00 am to 12:00 noon - $100 per person

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. Discuss the importance and principles of a Quality Management (QM) program.
  2. Discuss the importance and principles of a Utilization Management (UM) program.
  3. Identify how QM and UM relate to safety and financial stability.
  4. Explore the general concepts and examples of QM and UR.

This four hour workshop will look at the importance and basic concepts of developing Quality Management and Utilization Management processes, how they relate to each other and their importance in improving safety and reducing costs. Medical transport examples will be highlighted for improving your program and for meeting and exceeding CAMTS Standards.

FACULTY

Dudley Smith, MSHPA, CMTE, MEP is currently the Associate Executive Director of CAMTS who served for 25 years as the Corporate Director for Air Care & Mobile Care and Disaster Management for the University Hospital and the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati.  Air Care & Mobile Care consists of three air medical helicopters and fourteen ground ambulances, providing services from basic life support to mobile intensive care.  For over 14 years he served as the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) liaison to the Board of Directors of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS), where he also served on the executive committee as the Commission’s Treasurer.

Sandy Kinkade Hutton, R.N., Masters of Science in Nursing, Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE); career as flight nurse and professional in the air medical industry; past member of the board of directors for the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) and past president of AAMS; past president of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association; prior EMS marketing segment manager with a commercial helicopter manufacturer; Six Sigma black belt; currently, president of an international consulting firm.

“Preparing for Accreditation”

8:00 am to 12:00 noon - $100 per person

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. Describe the procedure and eligibility requirements to apply for CAMTS accreditation
  2. List the member organizations and structure of the CAMTS Board of Directors
  3. Describe the site visit – interviews and tours to be included
  4. List the possible accreditation actions and decisions
  5. Discuss the most frequently cited concerns and deficiencies in meeting compliance with the standards
  6. Describe the rationale for “Levels of Care”

Eileen Frazer, R.N., Certified Medical Transport Executive; former chief flight nurse, chairperson for the Association of Air Medical Services’ (AAMS) Safety Committee that worked jointly in 1988 with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration to provide the feasibility study that led to the development of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) in 1990; executive director of CAMTS since its inception; currently, executive director of CAMTS, contributing author to policies and standards that guide the CAMTS accreditation process; author and educator on air transport quality and safety, just culture.

 

“Risk Management in a Just Culture Environment”

1:00 pm to 5:00 pm - $100 per person

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Define Risk
2. Describe how values and accountability affect the management of risk
3. Identify the benefits of a risk management program 
4. Describe how to address at risk and reckless behaviors using the concepts of Just Culture.
