Sound, You and the Modern Build Environment


This course will review the sound-related phenomena as it relates to humans and the building industry. It is an introduction to how sound works and why addressing acoustics in building is important. It will also review alternative methodologies to address sound transmission class in buildings.

Learning Objectives:           

  • Obtain a greater understanding of how sound is important to humans and the building industry.
  • Learn the fundamental properties of sound, how sound works, and how its properties are interrelated.
  • Learn how the properties of sound react within buildings and its perception to occupants and the resulting consequences.
  • Gain an understanding of new ways of treating sound transmission in buildings and employing the right methods for your situation.

About Tim Deal:

With over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, including hands-on work in the field, estimating, distribution, and manufacturing, Tim Deal of Pabco Gypsum specializes in acoustical issues and solutions for interior partitions and floor/ceiling assemblies.  During his tenure, Tim has gained extensive design and construction knowledge which he shares with architects, specifiers, and contractors to achieve the correct assembly for the demands of the project, performance criteria, and budget.  Tim is a board member of the CSI Santa Clara Valley chapter and active with other chapters throughout his territory.
