The Child of Many Languages: A New Pentecost - El Niño De Muchas Lenguas: A Nuveo Pentecostés

¿Cómo es que cada uno de nosotros los escuchamos en nuestra propia lengua? Hechos  2:8

Our experiences with children in the atrium show us a place where we can live a contemplative life with greater intention, permeated with an awareness of how to live as Sofia writes, "the whole of one's life," contemplatively. We, as catechists in the atrium, have the responsibility to help the child live their relationship with God with “the whole of one’s life.” In the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, we give the child time and space for prayer to develop this relationship.  We recognize that we need to be using the child’s familiar language, their “mother tongue.” A bilingual environment takes a fundamental role in the prayer life of a child, where the child can live the contemplative life with greater understanding and intention.

You are invited to join the community of CGS catechists on Zoom for prayer and reflection, and a forum for discussion, July 23 and 24, 2021 as we ponder “The Child of Many Languages -  the bi-lingual atrium experience.

How do we assist the child who at home may hear one language, whose prayer language may even be in one language, while at the same time outside the home may hear another language such as English? What do we need to be sensitive to in serving the child who is bi-lingual? In serving bilingual communities we need to consider the following: What is the prayer language of the child? How do we prepare a bilingual environment? How do we educate the families in the community in order to work together as one community with two languages?

This time apart will give you an opportunity to refresh yourself in prayerful reflection on the Gifts of the Spirit as they guide our understanding of the bilingual child. You are invited to share your experiences, listen to others' experiences and exchange ideas on serving bi-lingual or multi-lingual children in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atrium.  As an association, we seek to bring our member catechists together for conversation in order to understand the needs of bilingual children who participate in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as well as the communities they are in so that as catechists we are better able to serve our children.

This Zoom event will be presented in both English and Spanish.  We will have translators interpreting both languages so it will be important for you to let us know when you register whether you prefer English or Spanish.  There will be small breakout groups arranged by language during this event.

Nuestras experiencias con los niños en el atrio nos muestran un lugar donde podemos vivir una vida espiritual con mayor propósito, impregnada con una conciencia de cómo vivir como Sofía escribe "toda la vida" contemplativamente. Como catequistas en el atrio tenemos la responsabilidad de ayudar al niño a vivir su relación con Dios con "toda la vida". En la Catequesis del Buen Pastor le damos al niño tiempo y espacio para la oración, para desarrollar esta relación. Reconocemos que necesitamos usar el lenguaje familiar del niño, su "lengua materna". Por esta razón, vemos que un ambiente bilingüe toma un papel fundamental en la vida de oración de un niño, donde él  puede vivirla de una manera contemplativa con mayor entendimiento e intención

Se les invita a unirse a la comunidad de catequistas de la CBP  para tener un encuentro de oración y reflexión, y un foro de discusión, los dias 23, y24  de julio; donde  reflexionamos sobre "El  niño de muchas lenguas- la experiencia del atrio bilingüe.

¿Cómo ayudamos al niño que vive en casa con un idioma, el cual lo utiliza para rezar,  mientras que al mismo tiempo es un niño con otra lengua en la escuela o en cualquier otro lugar que puede ser el inglés? ¿Qué necesitamos para ser sensibles al servir al niño que es bilingüe? Al prepararnos para servir a comunidades bilingües debemos considerar lo siguiente: ¿En qué idioma reza el niño? ¿Cómo preparamos a los adultos para trabajar en un ambiente bilingüe? ¿Qué necesitamos para  preparar un ambiente bilingüe? ¿Cómo educamos a las familias en la comunidad para trabajar juntos como una comunidad con dos idiomas?

Este momento  aparte te dará la oportunidad de refrescarte en una reflexión sobre los Dones del Espíritu mientras guían nuestro entendimiento sobre el niño bilingüe. Se le invita a compartir sus experiencias, escuchar las experiencias de los demás e intercambiar ideas sobre el servicio de niños bilingües o multilingües en la Catequesis del atrio del Buen Pastor.  Como asociación, buscamos reunir a nuestros catequistas miembros para conversar con el fin de entender las necesidades de los niños bilingües que participan en la Catequesis del Buen Pastor, así como las comunidades en las que se encuentran para que como catequistas podamos servirlos mejor .

Este evento a través de zoom se presentará tanto en inglés como en español.  Tendremos traductores interpretando ambos idiomas.  Recuerde hacernos saber si prefiere inglés o español en el formulario de inscripción.  Habrá pequeños grupos que se organizarán por idioma durante el evento.
