Come be part of this exciting summer opportunity! During these three days, students will use antibodies to identify chicken, quail or duck serum as used in Forensic Laboratories, detect genetically modified DNA in Dorito chips, determine if they inherited a specific genetic element, and use specific enzymes to cut DNA at specific spots that they have planned! These skills can help get a lab job while they are in college.
Daily Schedue
The boot camp will begin at 9:00 AM daily in the Harmony Grove Lab in the Wentworth Education Center at the San Joaquin County Office of Education. Students will be provided a lab coat to wear, safety glasses or goggles and a research notebook that they will be able to take home. The day will end at 2:30 PM.
Lunch Break
There will be a 30-minute lunch break each day. Lunch will be provided for the students by a local caterer. If your student has specific allergies or dietary restrictions, they can bring their own sack lunch, refrigeration is available.
What to Wear
Students should wear long pants and closed toed shoes each day since it is a lab setting.
What to Bring
Students should just bring themselves, but be prepared to have a sweater in case the air conditioning makes them a little chilly.
Behavior issues/Safety
This is an enrichment activity and any behavior issues or safety violoations will result in immediate dismissal and removal from the course with no refunds provided.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Required docuements will be sent via email to the parent/guardian email listed above. Each form will need to be filled out, signed, and brought to the first day of camp - July 25th. Please arrive a few minutes early to process all paperwork.
