Taking charge of cancer-related cognitive decline
Join Erica Guardascione, speech-language pathologist and ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation therapist as she discusses how patients can take charge of their cancer-related cognitive decline (CRCD), a side effect experienced by many people who have had or are undergoing cancer treatment.
In this session Erica will:
- Explain what CRCD is and what factors often cause and impact this treatment’s related side effects
- Discuss how CRCD can impact your day-to-day activities
- Provide guidance on how to improve your cognitive abilities
- Share experiences of patients she and her colleagues have treated over the years who have found great support and relief through therapy
Many people affected by cancer experience some form of CRCD, but with the support of specially trained cognitive rehabilitation therapists like Erica, it is possible to improve your cognitive abilities and overall brain health.
Speech-language pathologist at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation
Erica Guardascione is a speech-language pathologist at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in Saddle Brook, NJ and has a deep interest in cancer-related cognitive decline (CRCD). She is considered an authority on attention, focus and memory impairments and rehabilitation strategies.
Erica also serves as a curriculum developer and faculty member for the ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation Program and practiced for over a decade as a clinical specialist in the Cognitive Rehabilitation Program (CRP) at Kessler where she currently serves as the clinical lead.
Erica holds an undergraduate degree in speech-language pathology from Hofstra University, and went on to pursue graduate studies in this specialty at Nova Southeastern University.
