PART A: Unify Landlords Legislative Updates: Continuing the Conversation

It has been a long 5 months since the Tenant Protection Act passed.  We had a great meeting at Turning Stone that brought in almost 400 folks.  Concerns were voiced and data collected.  This Tuesday we are bringing back together a group to share what we have been up to at NYCRAA on behalf of all landlords and industry leaders.

Come learn & network - agenda will include:

Our messaging and 5 points to be presented into legislation.

Our strategy and coalition affiliate groups.

Our branding, new website for coalition.

Chance to meet the Public Affairs Firm & Lobbyist we hired.

How you can be a part of this historic day in our industry on Lobby Day January 13!

This meeting is for ALL New York Owners, Investors, Developers, Influencer within management company, or any industry professional. Please plan to gather your colleagues and join us. We are stronger together!

Our key messaging and points will be revealed as well as the strategic plan to partner with tenant unions, coalitions, and like minded groups across the state.

PART B: Cybersecurity in Multifamily: What Does This Mean for You?

On July 26, 2019, Governor Cuomo signed the “Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security” (SHIELD) Act (the “Act”), requiring businesses to implement safeguards for the “private information” of New York residents and broaden New York’s security breach notification requirements.  The SHIELD Act, which amends General Business Law 899-aa, requires substantive data security controls of any person or business that owns or licenses computerized data including the defined “private information” of a New York resident.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR MULTIFAMILY LANDLORDS AND EMPLOYERS?  Any business that holds a NY resident’s private information is required to comply.

Join us November 19th to review the law changes that ARE ALREADY IN effect on October 23, 2019 to avoid the costly civil penalties associated therewith for failure to comply and learn what else is necessary to be completed by March 2020. View memo to view more details about the Shield Act from our Board Member and Partner at Boylan Code, Jaime Cain: Here
