The 2015 Better Philadelphia Challenge
(Teachers: please consider adding this competition to your Fall curriculum!)
Petty Island, the site of multiple recreational complex proposals over the centuries (even Louis Sullivan drafted plans in 1907), languishes today as a nearly-forgotten storage site for petroleum tanks and cargo containers. How might Petty Island - and the land adjacent to it on the Philadelphia side of the Delaware River - be developed as a 21st Century recreation complex suited to today's needs and economic/environmental realities?
First prize is $5,000 USD!
Pre-Registrants will receive the official competition challenge and rules via email on the day the competition launches (October 03, 2014). Only one person from each team needs to pre-register, however every team member - as well as teachers and administrators - are welcome to pre-register. Only those who have pre-registered will receive the Official Competition Packet in their email on October 3rd.
Note: This competition, formerly known as the Ed Bacon Student Design Competition, is open to all university-level students around the globe. Entries from multi-disciplinary teams representing a variety of fields and stakeholders, including perhaps designers, architects, planners, public policy makers, economists, transportation planners, MBAs, or others are strongly encouraged.
