Breaking Bias: Lessons from the Amistad

New Jersey’s Amistad law requires African American history to be taught as an integral part of American history throughout the school year, not just during Black History Month.

This workshop will introduce participants to the background unit and units 1 and 2 of our Breaking Bias: Lessons from the Amistad curriculum and offer strategies for teaching African American history from an anti-bias lens. These units address African civilizations, race as a social construct and chattel slavery both nationally and in New Jersey. Lessons align with NJ Student Learning Standards for social studies.

NOTE: This training is a prerequisite for our new Breaking Bias: Lessons from the Amistad Part 2

This workshop is free for educators. 3 Professional Development credits are available to educators who attend the entire training.
