Krysalis: Conception (+ bonus workshops!) with Kami Liddle in Houston
Conception is an inquiry-based intensive focused on the creative process of dance making and how to develop your voice as an artist.
You will spend 30 plus hours with an intimate group of peers (registration is limited to 20 participants) learning movement and technique paired with specific activities to explore how to arrange movement and make it your own. You’ll receive support, tools, and a community of peers as you create your own choreography, explore your vision, and take both to the next level.
We’ll delve into elements of time, space, shape, dynamics, musicality and texture, but then we’ll take it further. We’ll learn how to form your vision through movement and put it on your body, other dancers, and groups. This course includes a choreography follow-up with Kami and the full group 3 months after the intensive.

Slow Elastic Movement: (12-2 p.m.)
Become a malleable dancer through exploring attack and follow through. Our focus will be on intentional movement through strong and fluid movements while contrasting with unexpected sharp pops, locks and recoiling movement. Several movement phrases will be taught to explore this movement dynamic. This is a technique based session that is suitable to all levels.
Krysalis Dance Phrases: (2:15-4:15 p.m.)
Kami will share some of her new combinations and movement phrases that she has created for her new dance program called Krysalis. Krysalis focuses on the style of Contemporary Fusion Belly Dance, which combines strong leg and footwork with fluidity in the spine and precision in the torso. It emphasizes strength and
flexibility, rhythmic and musical phrasing, and most importantly, self-expression. This workshop is geared towards intermediate to advanced dancers.

Registration opens January 27, 2020!
The objective of the overall program is to help dancers develop and refine their knowledge base and to experience and elevate the dancer through four individual courses. The intention is not to teach dancers to dance a particular way, but rather, to nurture the path of each dancer and give them the tools to create their own authentic movement.
Krysalis consists of four courses:
Invocation: Foundation of Contemporary Fusion Belly Dance Technique
Expansion: Professional Performance Intensive
Conception: Choreography Creation Lab
Elevation*: Advanced Technique
*Courses can be taken individually and in no particular order except for Elevation which requires certification of Invocation before enrolling.
