Ergonomics 

 

Speaker:  Renuka 

Renuka is a private practice owner of Revive Physical Therapy, with two locations in Ellicott City, MD. She is a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) graduate from Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. Renuka specializes in the treatment of TMD (Temporomandibular disorders) and is certified by the Craniofacial Academy (CRAFTA). She also specializes in soft tissue techniques and joint mobilization to treat headaches, cervical spine, lumbar spine, and neurological dysfunctions.

Renuka serves as a clinical instructor for students from University of Maryland, Howard and Carroll Community College. She is also an advisory board member for the PTA program at Howard Community College and ARL program at HCPSS. Renuka continues to educate the community at senior centers in Maryland through wellness seminars. She also partners with the Howard county school system and mentor for high school students. Renuka is a certified orthopedic manual therapist and Reiki level 1 & 2 certified practitioner.

Course Description:

This course is intended for dental hygienists who are interested in learning more about ergonomics and how to apply it to their work. It is also a valuable resource for dental hygienists who are already experiencing MSDs and want to learn how to prevent them from getting worse.

Course Learning Objectives:

      Define ergonomics and its importance in dental hygiene.

      Identify the risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in dental hygienists.

      Describe the principles of good ergonomics in the dental setting.

      Evaluate the ergonomic design of dental equipment and furniture.

      Learn how to adjust dental equipment and furniture to optimize posture and reduce stress.

      Incorporate ergonomic principles into patient positioning.

      Identify and implement strategies for preventing and managing MSDs.

 

Upon completion of this course, dental hygienists will be able to:

      Recognize the signs and symptoms of MSDs.

      Assess their own risk for MSDs.

      Make changes to their work environment to reduce their risk of MSDs.

      Teach their patients about ergonomics and how to protect themselves from MSDs.
